How to Clean a House in Ten Easy Steps

How to Clean a House in Ten Easy Steps · 2026 ↗80 min

Decades after domestic worker Beatriz first migrated from Colombia to the U.S., she and her daughter—filmmaker Carolina Gonzalez Valencia—find themselves facing an impending deportation. Together, they create for Beatriz a fictional character of a best-selling writer who tells her story of migration, family separation, and the realities of finding work in America. Told in 10 idiosyncratic chapters, the pair weave their own personal stories into the narrative to build a bridge from heartbreak to healing. HOW TO CLEAN A HOUSE IN TEN EASY STEPS is a fantastical docu-fiction that honors the realities of labor and the love that guides us.
