On the eve of his infant son’s naming ceremony, a new father’s carefully built life begins to unravel when his estranged mother (Trine Dyrholm, QUEEN OF HEARTS) arrives uninvited. What begins as a celebration quietly unravels into a confrontation with the past filled with missteps, unresolved wounds, and moments of surprising warmth. Dyrholm gives a magnetic, career-best performance in this sharply observed debut feature from Mads Mengel. Winner of the Karlovy Vary Special Jury Prize, THE GUEST explores the roles we inherit, the people we try to become, and the impossibility of ever fully escaping where we come from.
