In 1980s New Jersey, Rita (Carrie Coon), a Jewish suburban mother haunted by the weight of her past, encounters magnetic young spiritual leader Ricki (Lily James) and leaves her husband (Tracy Letts) to follow her to an all-female commune. When her daughters (Bella Ramsey and Odessa Young) arrive unexpectedly to bring her home, Rita is forced to choose between the family she left behind and the life she believes can save her. Inspired by real events, THE LIBERATION is at once a gripping psychological thriller and a moving exploration of the reverberations of trauma within family. A Bleecker Street release.
