The latest from Spanish master filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar, BITTER CHRISTMAS tells two alternating stories: in 2004, advertising director Elsa navigates trouble with her friends and her boyfriend Bonifacio, while in 2026 filmmaker Raúl writes a script that we soon discover is the story of Elsa. As both Elsa and Raúl resort to autofiction to solve creative blocks and personal issues, the echoes between author and subject begin to reverberate. With his signature flair for color and style, Almodóvar interrogates the close relationship between inspiration and life, expanding the limits of stories within stories.
